Yoshi’s Woolly World was a delight on the Wii U. It wrapped our little green dinosaur into wool and presented the cutest 2D platformer since LittleBigPlanet. It is a charming, and peaceful game that allows players to just enjoy a video game. Since it was released on the Wii U, next to no-one played it which This is a damn shame, but Nintendo are rectifying this with the 3DS release of Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World. I can promise it will be incredible.
How do I know this?
Simple. This is a straight port of the Wii U version with added extras including Poochy. So. Much. Poochy. Yoshi’s faithful dog was recreated in yarn for the console version of the game, but sparingly used. Now, thanks to Nintendo fans, he’s the star of the show.
As well as the main game, there are new dedicated levels to our yarny mutt, Poochy Pups to help Yoshi find hidden items and customisable Yoshi that can be shared via StreetPass. Of course, Nintendo’s toys-to-life amiibo can be scanned into the game to unlock themed Yoshi. They don’t add anything to the game except for a new knit for our green dinosaur to wear. The Woolly amiibo give extra lives and if you tap the new Poochy toy, he will come to your rescue whenever called.
Most excitingly (and the reason for this post) “Day in the life” videos are unlocked throughout the game. 30 videos have been created by stop animation studio, Dwarf! and they are what I can only describe as pure joy.
In the first video posted to Nintendo’s Youtube channel, Yoshi is teaching Poochy to fetch. The second one, a team of Yoshis are playing hide and seek. Just take a look!
Poochy &Yoshi’s Woolly World will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in February. Keep an eye on Nintendo’s social media for more videos and you can pre-order the game from Amazon with or without Poochy.
