As Marvel prepares for their latest Netflix show, it seems only right that they give Luke Cage for a mini comic book series. Set in a time of flared jeans, high waists and jive talkin’, Cage! promises a fun adventure in the Big Apple.
Handling both writing and art duties is award-winning animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Hotel Transylvania). If you’re not familiar with the artist, you can see the comparisons in his work.
Cage looks every bit like the cartoons of the 1990s such as Dexter’s Laboratory and I’m excited to see how the rest of the comic pans out.
Tartakovsky is bringing the Hero for Hire back to the streets of New York for a 4-part adventure set in the 1970s. Marvel is promising that Luke Cage will be up against foes that can hit as hard as he can. For a man that is impervious to almost anything, that’s going to be tough.
Cage! #1 will launch on the 5th October – a week after the Netflix show premiers. Talk about striking when the iron is hot. If you can’t wait for your fill of Luke, you can also check out the ongoing Power Man & Iron Fist.
I’m quietly hoping that if Cage! sells well, that a monthly series will be commissioned. However since this project has been nearly 10 years in the making, this could be tricky.
